What I Read: Oct ’19

The Intuitionist by Colson Whitehead: This was a book club book and while I loved the Underground Railroad by the same author, I did not love this book. He really dove deep into the details and I just do not find elevators that fascinating! Stick with the Underground Railroad to really get a good taste of Whitehead’s work!

Whistling Past the Graveyard by Susan Crandell: This is the November book club book and I listened to it as an audiobook. I felt the first third was too slow but once the narrative picked up, I enjoyed it more. One thing that stuck out to me; however, is that the racial naivety of the main character did not seem possible for a child in the Deep South in the late 1950’s.

Future Home of the Living God by Louise Erdrich: I purchased this signed copy at Erdrich’s bookstore after my father in law graciously took a big detour when we flew into Minneapolis last year. The premise is really intriguing and I’d highly recommend this piece of futurist fiction. Given the subject matter, I did not read it pregnant but listened to the audio book on maternity leave. It is read by the author, which made it 100x better in my estimation!
