I really wanted a good bowl of chili that was pretty healthy and would come together quickly on a weeknight. My parents gaveus part of one of their deer, so we had both ground turkey and ground venison on hand. Adding two different types of beans helps makes every bite different, something I love in chili. I think it would really great with a squirt of hot sauce too!

Serves: 12

You’ll Need:
1 pound ground turkey, thawed
1 pound ground venison or ground sirloin, thawed
1 green bell pepper, chopped
1 large onion, chopped
2 sliced jalapeños
6 garlic cloves, minced
2 cups marinara sauce
1 14.5 oz can diced fire roasted tomatoes
1 can black beans
1 can kidney beans
2 1/2 cups chicken broth
1 tbsp chili powder
2 tsp ground cumin
3/4 kosher salt
sharp cheddar for topping

Brown the meats in a large stock pot, stirring as needed. In a medium skillet, cook the onion, garlic, green pepper, and jalapeño until onion is glassy. Add sautéed veggies into the meat and stir in chicken broth, marinara, fire-roasted tomatoes, both black and kidney beans, chili powder, ground cumin and salt. Let simmer for 30-40 with a lid on, until ready to serve.

Serve with freshly grated sharp cheddar.
