Chicken Paprikash

So M and I decided to try something new and M found this recipe in the Joy of Cooking. Then I saw all the grease splatters and flour smudges and felt bad. Oh well. Then I saw that it called for spatzel, which is a German egg noodle. They also happen to be the closest product I can find that tastes like my Nana’s homemade egg noodles. She used to make chicken and noodles for Easters and family reunions-but I always thought she made it because she knew how much I loved it. I bet she would have this dish! It is so hearty and tasty.

major players-bay leaf, paprika, chicken broth, onion, spatzel (german egg noodles)
and the chicken! don’t forget the salt and pepper
(rick bayless says to flavor every layer!)
the sauce: paprika, chicken stock, onion, yumminess
add the chicken back and cook for 20-30 minutes
remove the chicken and add 1 and 1/2 cup of sour cream
serve over spatzel. melt with happiness
what else goes better with german noodles and hungarian chicken than asparagus?

  1. Sarah, your Nana DID make homemade noodles for you because you loved them and she loved you. Bet, she would have totally enjoyed your dinner. Looks wonderful and I bet it smelled wonderful too. Mama
